I didn’t use to like self-help books…

Not only did I not enjoy them, but I also avoided them like the plague! I found them pointless and utterly dull.

That was until I got a little older and life got a lot more complicated.

I found self-help books as a useful tool to evaluate my life and goals

Now, I make it a goal to listen or read one self-help book a month.

Each one is chalked full of beautiful ideas and tips for living your best life, and who couldn’t use more of that?

THE BEST READING LIST FOR PERSONAL GROWTH

“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”

-Joseph Addison

1. The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins on audible.
The 5 Second Rule

I feel that Mel Robbins explained this best,

“The 5 Second Rule is simple. If you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds, or your brain will kill it. The moment you feel an instinct or a desire to act on a goal or a commitment, use the Rule … If you do not take action on your instinct to change, you will stay stagnant.”

-Mel Robbins, The 5 Second Rule

The 5 Second Rule is probably my favorite self-help book of all time. This book changed my entire life! (And no, I am not exaggerating.)

This book is why I was able to purchase two houses before the age of 23 and am currently in the process of purchasing a third!

Mel’s 5 Second Rule pairs very well with other self-help books because she gives you the exact recipe to “JUST DO IT”!

This book is definitely worth the read. Once you read this book, there will be no more excuses!

And, if you enjoyed her book, be sure to check out her life coaching seminars!

2. The Confidence Code by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay

The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman
The Confidence Code

This book is a game-changer for those entrepreneurial spirits out there.

The Confidence Code hits on how confidence truly is key! Especially for women in the workplace.

This book provides a guide to understanding the importance of confidence as well as a clear map to achieving it.

“Confidence is the purity of action produced by a mind free of doubt.”

-Katty Kay, The Confidence Code

100% recommend this book, especially if you struggle with confidence. It’s also a great read, even if you don’t!

So don’t be afraid to dive in and give this excellent book a read!

3. The 4 Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

The 4-Hour workweek by Timothy Ferriss
The 4-Hour Workweek

The 4-Hour Workweek is a comprehensive guide to freeing yourself from the standard American 9-5 grind.

Tim Ferris touches on how to unlock your inner entrepreneur, urging you to create a turnkey business to fund the life of your dreams.

This book also teaches how you can travel and live lavishly without having to spend an arm and a leg to do so.

I discovered Tim Ferriss’s The 4 Hour Workweek around the time I began reading The 4 Second Rule, and I can tell you that these books pair amazingly!

This book was a wake-up call, causing my husband and me to change our goals and aspirations in life altogether.

It also reaffirmed what we had always known; money is not the most important thing in life; time is!

Time to spend with those you love, time to experience all the amazing wonders this world has to offer, time to live!

Life is too short to work your life away.

“What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”

-Timothy Ferriss

Tim Ferriss introduces the idea of “mini-retirements” and goes into depth on creating more turnkey forms of income.

My husband and I were enthralled with every page and set out immediately to restructure our lives!

If you have not read this book yet, you NEED to!

4. The Power Of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale

-Norman Vincent Peale, The Power of Positive Thinking

Another great read!

I was so excited when I stumbled upon this book. I have always been a bit unorganized when it came to keeping my home tidy.

If you don’t mind a little language, you should totally give this book a read!

8. The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey

The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
The Total Money Makeover

My husband and I found this book incredibly helpful when it came to restructuring our finances.

I will warn you; it does feel a bit like being lectured by a grumpy parent.

In Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover, you will learn how to form an action plan to tackle your debt and accrue savings.

His broken-down methods help others get out of debt and stay out of debt, using a few simple steps.

“We buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.”

-Dave Ramsey, The Total Money Makeover

If what you have been doing with your finances isn’t working, I recommend giving this book a listen.

The Total Money Makeover is one of my husband’s favorite self-help books and is a massive part of the reason we live such a relaxed lifestyle.

So if you haven’t yet, give it a read!

9. Money And The Law Of Attraction by Esther Hicks

Money and the law of attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks. The teachings of Abraham.
The Law Of Attraction

I discovered Money And The Law Of Attraction over a year ago and fell in love with its principles.

Money and The Law of Attraction teaches the concept that one can attract things they desire by merely sending positive intent into the universe.

And since I am all about that positivity, I was hooked pretty quickly.

Esther Hicks hits on the thought that “The universe always says yes.”

I include Esther Hicks’s teachings on manifesting good things into your life as part of my daily routine and don’t plan on ever stopping.

Money And The Law Of Attraction is an excellent book about positivity and how to attract good things into your life.

So you should definitely read it!

“You are the creator of your experience, and you must create your experience deliberately.”

-Esther Hicks

10. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

The Alchemist. A magical fable about following your dream.
The Alchemist

This book takes you on such an incredible journey of self-discovery.

The Alchemist is a fantastic story about a young shepherd boy who yearns to see the world and experience adventures.

So he sets out on a journey where he encounters the Alchemist who teaches him the importance of life’s journey, listening to your heart and reaching for your dreams.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

-Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

It may be an older book, but it is chalked full of remarkable stories that are still just as applicable today.

It’s definitely worth the read!
