IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO MAKE A CHANGE

Whether you’re 15 or 72, it is never too late to step back and take a moment to reevaluate your life.

Goals are crucial at any phase of life!

WHY SETTING AND REVALUTAING GOALS IS SO IMPORTANT

Have you ever stumbled across those articles about 80 even 90-year-old men and women accomplishing something genuinely great?

Like the little old lady that jumped back into gymnastics competitions, or the 80-year-old woman who trains for bodybuilding competitions?

Truly inspiring, right?

This just goes to show that you can really do anything you set your mind to!

Regularly reevaluating your goals can aid you by,

  • Creating a clear life plan
  • Reducing stress and anxiety about the future
  • Providing a sense of accomplishment
  • Creating a boost in your mood and health

7 WAYS TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND EVALUATE YOUR CURRENT LIFE GOALS

As we grow, our lives begin to change, and so should our goals.

This is why we must regularly reevaluate our life paths and make changes!

If you are unhappy, CHANGE SOMETHING.

If you are feeling anxious all the time, CHANGE SOMETHING.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, CHANGE SOMETHING!

Don’t wait. Living your life on pause can be just as detrimental as backsliding.

1. FIND A STILL MOMENT

With the blessing and the curse of technology, our idle time is often filled with screens, music, or games, leaving very little time for our brains to decompress and actually process the events of the day.

Some of my best thoughts come when I find myself alone in nature or a quiet place.

Sometimes our brains need a moment, to think, to process our thoughts and feelings.

You will notice that it is much easier to self-evaluate when you take a quiet moment for you.

2. ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS

For any real, lasting life changes to occur, one must always ask themselves the hard questions.

Questions like,

  • What do I want out of life?
  • Where do I wish to be 1 year from now?
  • Where do I wish to be 5 years from now?
  • What qualities do I wish to see in myself?

I love to ask myself questions like these! I will often ponder and write out my answers in my journal whenever I feel like remapping my goals.

3. CREATE AN ACTIONABLE PLAN

Now, asking yourself the hard questions just isn’t enough. Real change is brought about by action.

Once you have asked and answered those deep-burning questions, it is time to create an actionable plan and make those changes happen!

The best way to make a plan that will bring you closer to your daily goals is by incorporating tasks into your daily routine to push yourself closer to your goals each day.

Ask yourself,

What have I done to progress myself toward my goals today?

4. TAKE ACTION

So you have asked yourself those hard questions, created a plan, now it is time to execute it!

The best way to begin executing your new life goals is to slowly integrate tasks related to those goals into your daily routine.

Say one of your goals is to become a better cook, so during the week, you might research a few cooking classes in your area.

Take it slow, but always remain moving forward.

5. NEVER STOP LEARNING

We are never too old to learn something new! In fact, learning something new is a great way to keep yourself happy and fulfilled in life.

Learning aids us in accomplishing our goals and is a great way to keep us excited about life.

So, NEVER stop learning and ALWAYS search for new experiences!

6. ALWAYS PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Practicing gratitude was actually one of the hardest steps for me to learn and incorporate into my life.

I have always been a positive person, but when it came to evaluating myself, I was always my worst critic!

I tended to focus on my shortcomings or the things I had yet to accomplish.

It is essential to count your blessings!

When you take time to journal, or state all of the many things you do have, it is SO much harder to focus on things that you don’t have.

“Never underestimate the power you have to take your life in a new direction.”

7. BE PATIENT

Last but not least, be patient with yourself! Change takes time.

You will have off days, that’s just a given. You will have days where you just don’t feel like it, and that’s okay too!

What matters is that we get back up and keep going.

Start slow, and know that it is totally okay to take a day for you! Self-care is important!

In fact, enjoying some much-needed fun or relaxation is just as crucial to maintaining your goals!

CONCLUSION

Take some time, create a plan, slowly integrate that plan into your daily life, always try to learn something new, practice gratitude, and most importantly, BE PATIENT!

Give yourself permission to start today.

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”

– Charles Dederich

I love your suggestion to journal. A lot of people resist writing and just insist that they can think about it or imagine. But writing isn’t just for recording–it actually brings up a lot of stuff you might not have even thought of otherwise.

Oh, Alyssa! This came at the perfect timing. I was having these same thoughts yesterday and was feeling overwhelmed. It’s challenging for me to have a full-time day job, work part-time as a realtor, mom, wife, and still be a lifestyle blogger. I’m working on block scheduling and being more organized 😃.

  12. Frances | 29th Jun 20

    Nice Post!

I only understood recently how crucial it is to keep learning. There’s so much more happiness in progression than the end result.

    I really enjoyed this post.

I think for me the hard part is creating a plan. I feel like it is a partial plan. I have a few things laid out and I want to add more but sometimes I feel like they are not in the right order or I might have to change things out. I’m slowly moving forward. I guess its better than not at all. I get anxious only because I want to get to the goal now. Lol I have to remind myself that I need more patience.

  21. Megan | 8th Jul 20

I honestly find goal-setting so intimidating, but the way you broke it down makes it much more approachable. Thank you for sharing!

  22. Jessie | 8th Jul 20

I am also my worst critic. I seem to second guess everything I do and I am always wondering about how it could have been better. I plan to sit down and reevaluate my goals soon Great post!

  25. Ayra | 29th Jul 20

Very good point. Everyone talks about setting goals and crushing them but we often tend to forget that it’s so crucial to analyze what you’ve achieved and if it’s really what you actually want as you proceed in your life…loved it!

  26. Kathrin | 14th Mar 21

This is the right webpage for everyone who hopes to find out
about this topic. You understand so much its almost hard to
argue with you (not that I really would want to…HaHa).
You certainly put a fresh spin on a subject that has been discussed for ages.

    Great stuff, just excellent!

  27. Nicole | 13th Jul 21

sometimes, I have this mindset where it’s too easy to be patient because we’re so used to having everything right now especially with technology nowadays. It’s important to keep reminding yourself that best things come to those who wait and to not give up

    • Lyssa day | 13th Jul 21

I love that thought Nicole! It’s so true. It can be far too easy to become complacent in life. Good things certainly do come to those who work hard! 🙂
